The width correction (ADR 0005)

• 295cm was never wrong — it just wasn't all buildable. On-site measurement (inside the existing enclosure vs. outside to the passage) found a 250mm immovable wall at the passage end. Genuinely buildable width: 270cm.
• The shortfall came entirely out of the cleaning cupboard, not the pantry or coffee nook — merging cleaning + washer + drying into one cavity removed the internal boundary that would otherwise have forced a fixed split, so there was nowhere left that a straight width cut would have broken something already locked.
• living_area_plan.html doesn't show this obstruction yet — flagged in the ADR as a correction still owed to that page.

The cleaning cupboard, merged

• Cleaning + washer + drying become one 89cm cavity, no internal divider. Holds the Bosch WNG254R1GB washer-dryer, the wall-mounted Dyson V8 dock, the drying rail, and mop/bucket/cleaning-supply storage together.
• Full floor-to-ceiling doors — no separate top cabinet for this section, which also resolves the earlier awkwardness of the drying/washer column being the one exception in an otherwise-matching top band. It now reads as a deliberate two-part composition instead: normal cabinetry (pantry, coffee nook) beside one full-height utility bank.
• 4 door panels, not one giant leaf — 2 leaves side by side (~44cm each), each split top/bottom into stacked panels (~1185mm) rather than one continuous 2380mm leaf, which would be unusually tall for standard hinges and prone to sag.
• Interior layout deliberately not resolved here. Where the vacuum dock sits relative to the washer, and where the mop and bucket live, is queued as its own follow-up mini-project once this outer envelope is built.

The washer-dryer, not just a washer

• It's a Bosch WNG254R1GB washer-dryer (10.5kg wash / 6kg dry, 848×598×590mm), not a washer with drying handled elsewhere. The drying cabinet is overflow — the gap between wash and dry capacity, plus anything that shouldn't go in a tumble dryer — and doubles as service access to the top of the machine and its valves.
• It rotates 90° in place. Existing supply and waste don't move — confirmed on site, this is today's laundry cupboard, not a new location. The corner currently behind the machine (visible pipework, waste hose, isolator switch) becomes its new right-hand side.
• Bosch's own manual specifies this exact install method — "Kitchen unit," under a continuous secured worktop, 60cm minimum niche. Not a compromise version of a freestanding install.

The coffee nook, without the Kenwood

• The Kenwood Chef Elite XL (KVL6100S) stays in the kitchen, where it lives today. Its real dimensions (300×430×350mm) turned out 3.5cm bigger sideways than the design had assumed — which would have forced the appliance bay to 94cm+ regardless. Removing it instead let the bay shrink.
• Flagged, not fixed here: kitchen_plan.html's prep-space case assumes all three appliances (machine, grinder, Kenwood) left for the party wall, worth ~90cm freed. With the Kenwood staying, that number needs re-deriving — noted directly on that page.
• 76cm, not the bare-minimum 56cm the Profitec + Niche alone would need. Real-world measurement of the current setup (knockbox, dosing cup, towel, elbow room) showed ~70cm already in daily use — 76cm adds margin on top of that, not a tight fit to the spec-sheet footprint.
• Two shallow, full-width, back-set shelves at 420mm and 650mm above the worktop, sized against real canister (150⌀×190h) and cup (up to 160h) measurements, not the machines alone. Painted sage MR-MDF, not stone or natural wood — decided after seeing a render of the natural-wood version read as too monochromatic (see below).
• 30mm Calacatta Verde engineered stone, worktop and upstand both, for stain resistance — 0%-silica, comes in exactly this thickness, and its sage/olive veining happens to echo the media end's painted drawers without that being the intent.
• Rear tank clearance for the Profitec checked, no conflict — its full footprint (410mm with the portafilter handle) leaves ~340mm clear behind it in a 750mm-deep run, comfortably enough to slide the 2.8L tank out for refilling.

Drawers, this run's own rule (ADR 0004 update)

• No shallow drawers anywhere — storage shortage is a driving reason for the whole renovation, and a shallow drawer with dead space behind it was judged a pointless waste given that. Pantry and coffee-nook drawers both go to 650–700mm, near the run's full 750 depth.
• Pantry drawers exist specifically so the back of a 75cm shelf isn't unreachable — that's the whole reason they're pull-outs instead of fixed shelves, so they couldn't be shallow without defeating the point.
• Vertically aligned with the coffee-nook drawers, though the columns are different widths — the drawer band reads as one continuous line across both, with doors/shelving above running shorter on the pantry side to match.
• MR-MDF throughout, painted sage — matches the media end's drawer construction exactly, no deviation after all. A natural-birch-facia version (box painted, front left as plain wood) was drawn up and rendered first; dropped once seen, because a facia's only reason to differ from the box is to show a different material, and painting it over removes that reason entirely. Simpler and cheaper to build it exactly like the media end. Closed, both ends now look the same — painted sage fronts, not plain birch.
• The coffee-nook's top drawer gets a two-tier insert (shop-built tray on a second, lighter pair of runners, not bought hardware — see the hardware page) for coffee accessories; the bottom two are general kitchen overflow, not coffee-specific.
• Pantry drawers split into 2×3 (six total, ~462mm each) either side of a new centre divider, not 3×944mm. A single 944mm-wide drawer is past the practical ~914mm (36″) limit for one pair of runners before racking and weight become real risks — the coffee-nook's 724mm and the media end's 731mm drawers are both comfortably under that, so this is pantry-specific. Heights (280/260/260) and the vertical alignment with the coffee nook are unchanged; only the width split and the extra divider panel are new.

Pantry runs to the ceiling — decided after rendering

• No top cabinet over the pantry. Its double doors now run floor-to-ceiling in one zone (238cm, was split 500 top cabinet + 108 doors). The coffee nook keeps its own top cabinet unchanged — this is a deliberate asymmetry between the two, not an oversight, and the second break from the "match the media end's top band" idea this session (the cleaning cupboard was the first, see ADR 0005).
• 4 fixed shelves instead of 3, to fill the taller cavity reasonably.
• Kickboard confirmed plain birch, not painted — matches the cutting schedule and the media end's own kickboard, both already birch. An early render draft added green paint to it that was never actually specified; caught and corrected before locking.

Zip HydroTap — investigated, not proceeding

• Plumbing was genuinely easy (a short branch off the washer's existing supply, not a run back to the kitchen), and the CO2 cylinder's ventilation requirement would have been solved for free by the coffee nook already being open. Dropped anyway on cost — worth revisiting if the budget picture changes, since the hard part (feasibility) is already answered.

• Confirm the 25cm immovable-wall figure and the 270cm buildable width with a second measurement before anything is cut — this whole page rests on one on-site reading.
• Cleaning cupboard interior — vacuum dock position, mop/bucket storage, drying rail height — deliberately deferred to a follow-up mini-project.
• Floor rigidity check under the washer position — ADR 0001's UFH build-up was specified for head height, not verified against this appliance's vibration.
• kitchen_plan.html's prep-space numbers need re-deriving now the Kenwood isn't moving — flagged there, not resolved.
